Developer Steelkrill Studio has officially announced Where Dolls Hang, an upcoming survival horror game that places players in the role of a detective trapped within a terrifying world inspired by a real-life location in Mexico.

Players will navigate wetlands, swamps, and dense forests filled with hanging dolls while searching for clues behind a series of disturbing disappearances.

Unlike many survival horror titles that focus solely on combat and escape, Where Dolls Hang introduces investigative gameplay as a core mechanic. Players will examine bodies, collect evidence, place markers at crime scenes, and document discoveries using an in-game camera. As they piece together the mystery, they will also need to survive the dangers hidden within the unnatural Forest of Dolls.

Steelkrill Studio describes the game as a blend of The Forest, Outlast, P.T., and Silent Hill. The result is an experience that combines resource gathering, crafting, and exploration with psychological horror and a forensic investigation system rarely seen in the genre.

The game’s unsettling setting is heavily inspired by Mexico’s famous Island of Dolls, but reimagines the concept as a living forest filled with dark secrets and supernatural threats. As players venture deeper into the woods, they will encounter increasingly disturbing sights while uncovering the truth behind the missing person cases that brought them there.

Survival will require more than simply avoiding danger. Players must adapt to changing weather conditions, a dynamic day-night cycle, and evolving threats that can alter how they explore, hide, and gather resources. Crafting weapons and building shelter will play an important role in staying alive as the investigation unfolds.

At the center of the story is a deeply personal mystery. While searching for answers surrounding a string of disappearances, players will also be investigating the fate of their own missing daughter, adding an emotional layer to the game’s dark narrative.

Where Dolls Hang does not currently have a release date, but the newly announced title is already shaping up to be an intriguing mix of detective work, survival mechanics, and psychological horror.
