Wanted 5 Games has announced that the iconic strategy board game Stratego will be making its way to Steam later this year. The announcement marks a new chapter for the beloved tabletop classic, which has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide over the past eight decades. Players eager to get an early look at the digital adaptation won’t have to wait long, as a playable demo is scheduled to arrive on June 11.
Originally released in the 1940s, Stratego challenges players to outthink their opponents in a battle of hidden information and tactical decision-making. The objective remains straightforward: locate and capture the enemy’s flag before they capture yours. However, every match is filled with uncertainty, as players secretly arrange their armies before the battle begins and must deduce the positions of enemy units through careful observation and strategic attacks.

The upcoming PC release preserves the classic board game experience while introducing new ways to play. In addition to traditional head-to-head matches, Stratego Online features a dedicated single-player campaign set during the Napoleonic era. Players will work their way through more than 15 handcrafted missions designed to test their strategic skills against increasingly difficult challenges.

Competitive players will also have plenty to explore thanks to an online ranked system that matches opponents based on skill level. As players improve, they can climb the rankings in pursuit of the prestigious Grandmaster rank. For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, a variety of AI-controlled opponents will be available for practice and experimentation.

Cross-platform support will allow PC players to compete against users on iOS and Android devices, helping ensure a healthy online player base across all supported platforms. The game will also include options to challenge friends directly or spectate ongoing matches.

With a blend of classic strategy gameplay and modern online features, Stratego Online aims to introduce a new generation of players to one of the most enduring board games ever created. Players can wishlist the game on Steam now ahead of its launch later this year, while the upcoming demo on June 11 will provide an early opportunity to test their tactical abilities on the battlefield.
