If your action-adventure itch has been waiting for something that isn’t another Norse or Greek mythology retread, Bylinajust arrived on Steam and it’s bringing a whole different kind of legendary chaos to the table.

Bylina screenshot 1 Developed by Far Far Games and published by Digital Vortex Entertainment, Bylina is an isometric action-adventure rooted in Slavic folklore — think gods, monsters, ancient sorcerers, and yes, apparently pigs you can pet. It’s dark, it’s funny, and it looks like it’s doing something genuinely fresh with a mythology that doesn’t get nearly enough time in the spotlight.

Meet Kestrel — The Hero Who Wasn’t Supposed to Be One

You play as Kestrel, a young bogatyr (that’s a Slavic knight of legend, for the uninitiated) with one major problem: he was born without any hero’s powers. No divine blessing, no destiny, no cosmic stamp of approval. Just a stubborn kid who wants to be great in a world that keeps telling him he isn’t.

Things go sideways fast. What starts as a simple job ends with Kestrel winding up dead in the mysterious Thrice-Nine Kingdom — a shadowy, semi-open world pulled straight from Slavic myth. He’s revived by an enigmatic spirit, who now shares his body, and suddenly Kestrel is on the hook for reclaiming his soul, unraveling an ancient mystery, and stopping the world from ending. Typical Tuesday stuff.

The big bad? Koschei the Deathless — one of the most iconic villains in Slavic mythology and genuinely one of the coolest villain names in any fiction, ever.

    How It Plays

Bylina leans into skill-based real-time combat that rewards timing and smart play over button mashing. You’ll mix weapons, spells, and special abilities to take down mythical enemies, while exploring interconnected regions packed with hidden dungeons and side quests that actually tie into the world’s lore rather than feeling tacked on.

Progression is non-linear, meaning you’re shaping Kestrel the way you want — new abilities, wild gear, and powerful spells that you uncover by digging into the darkest corners of the Thrice-Nine realm. The game balances dark fantasy with sharp humor and a few deliberately ridiculous surprises, so it’s not all doom and gloom. Again — dancing mushrooms.

Don’t Sleep on the Launch Bonus

Everyone who buys Bylina within the first 30 days gets the Shroomie Power Armor dropped straight into their inventory for free. It’s a launch exclusive — once the window closes, it’s gone for good. Early adopters, this one’s for you.

    Platform Info

Bylina is available now on PC via Steam. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are in the works for later in 2026, so console players won’t be waiting forever — but the PC launch is live today.

Slavic mythology is criminally underrepresented in gaming, and from the looks of it, Bylina is making a strong case for why that needs to change.
