Independent studio Vertpaint has released the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming horror title Ritual Tides, offering players a chilling preview of the eerie world and intense encounters awaiting them.

The first-person horror experience introduces players to the mysterious island of Hortus, a remote British location set in the 1800s. Stranded alone on its unforgiving shores, players must explore bleak countryside, abandoned villages, and the crumbling remains of a once-thriving settlement while uncovering the island’s dark secrets.

The development team behind Ritual Tides has drawn praise from industry veterans, including Jonathan Berube, the former director at Blizzard Entertainment, who described the group as “the Seal Team of Game Development.”

The project also features contributions from horror author Adam Nevill, who has supported the game’s script, along with horror creator Daz Games, whose massive online audience has made him one of the genre’s most recognizable figures. Daz Games will also appear in the game as a character named Phineam.

Built with a focus on atmosphere and immersion, the game aims to push visual fidelity beyond many modern AAA titles. Vertpaint has rebuilt its core first-person systems and combat mechanics from the ground up to support the project’s unique traversal and combat design, helping bring the haunting world of Hortus to life.\

Ritual Tides is currently in development for PC, with console versions also planned to launch later this year.
