Fans of the acclaimed indie horror title The Mortuary Assistant will soon see its chilling story brought to life in theaters. The film adaptation is set to premiere on Friday, February 13, offering a cinematic take on the game’s unsettling blend of supernatural horror and emotional storytelling.
Produced by Epic Pictures through its horror label DREAD, alongside Cole Payne’s Traverse Media and Jacob P. Heineke, the movie closely follows the narrative that made the original game a standout among horror fans. The story centers on Rebecca Owens, played by Willa Holland, a newly certified mortician who begins work at the River Fields Mortuary.
What starts as a routine night shift quickly spirals into something far more disturbing. Rebecca discovers evidence of demonic rituals while uncovering the troubling history of her employer, Raymond Delver, portrayed by Paul Sparks. As the night unfolds, she is also forced to confront unresolved trauma from her own past, adding a psychological layer to the mounting dread.
The screenplay is co-written by Tracee Beebe and Brian Clarke, the creator of the original game, signaling a strong effort to preserve the tone and story that players remember. The adaptation aims to translate the suspense, mystery, and memorable scares of the interactive experience into a film designed for both longtime fans and newcomers to the story.
