Indie developer Aran Koning—known for his work with the Dutch collective Sokpop, creators of Stacklands and Grunn—has officially pulled back the curtain on his latest project, Rat Game.
The upcoming title delivers an asymmetrical comedy-horror experience where players choose between two very different roles: a relentless Chef or a coordinated pack of troublemaking rodents. Matches support one Chef against two to eight rats, setting the stage for unpredictable multiplayer showdowns.

The premise is simple but chaotic. After enduring repeated extermination attempts, the rats are striking back by sabotaging the restaurant at every turn. Players controlling the rodents will chew through wiring, clog plumbing, hack computers, and unleash enough mayhem to force the establishment to shut down. Meanwhile, the Chef must rely on sound cues to track the scurrying intruders, capture them by hand, and toss them into cages before the situation spirals out of control.

The entire conflict unfolds inside a sprawling restaurant packed with shortcuts, hidden pathways, and plenty of secrets. A dynamic soundtrack and proximity chat aim to heighten the tension—and the comedy—while the promise of “last animal standing” ensures every match ends in frantic fashion.

Key Features:
-
Asymmetrical co-op gameplay
-
1 Chef vs. 2–8 rats
-
Proximity voice chat
-
Dynamic music system
-
Large interconnected map filled with secrets

Koning, based in Utrecht, has contributed to more than one hundred games as part of Sokpop, including Simmiland. For this project, he’s collaborating with sound designer Alexander van der Kruijf of Tumult Kollektiv, a group of musicians and audio specialists headquartered in Berlin. Van der Kruijf is handling the game’s sound design and adaptive music, which should play a major role in both stealth and survival.

Rat Game is slated to launch soon on PC, with an announcement trailer already offering a taste of the rodent-driven chaos. If asymmetrical multiplayer with a comedic horror twist sounds like your kind of experience, this is one indie project worth keeping on your radar.
