Developer Nordic Trolls, alongside publisher Gameforge, has released a substantial Development Progress Update for Under a Rock, offering a detailed look at how the ambitious survival adventure is taking shape. The update arrives alongside a new developer blog and video, giving fans a clearer picture of the game’s direction as it continues to build momentum with over 450,000 wishlists across digital storefronts.

Under a Rock is a survival-adventure experience centered on exploration, discovery, and systemic gameplay within a procedurally generated world. Players are dropped onto a mysterious, vibrant island teeming with oversized wildlife, strange creatures, and curious native inhabitants. From there, it’s about uncovering secrets, building a home, surviving dangerous nights, and adapting to a world that doesn’t play by familiar rules.

According to the development team, this latest update marks a key shift in production—from laying down core technology to weaving together interconnected, player-facing systems. Exploration, base building, combat, and discovery are no longer isolated features, but increasingly influence one another in meaningful and emergent ways.

The accompanying developer video highlights many of these systems in action, including procedural environments, cave exploration, underwater traversal, base construction, and combat refinements. It serves as a visual snapshot of the game’s current state and the long-term vision behind it.

Over the past few months, the team has focused heavily on expanding and polishing Under a Rock’s foundational pillars, preparing the game for deeper progression and more organic player-driven stories.

Key Highlights from the Development Update
Procedural World Evolution
World generation has been expanded with new large-scale “epics,” improved starter crash sites, richer biome variety, and more intentional regional structure. The goal is to make each area feel distinct and purposeful, encouraging exploration that feels rewarding rather than random.

Caves, Oceans, & Lakes
Caves have received major upgrades, including new modular layouts, underground resources, and unique creatures. Oceans have undergone a full visual overhaul, lakes are now swimmable, and early systems for underwater combat and creature pathfinding are being introduced.

Base Building & Blueprint System
Base construction has taken a big step forward with new crafting and building stations, along with a fully implemented Blueprint system. Players can now capture their builds, share them, cloud-sync designs, and redeploy bases complete with color-coding and decoration previews.

Research, Cataloging, & Journaling
The first phase of a deeper discovery loop is now in place. Players can research creatures (Creatura) and materials (Materia), gradually expanding an in-game Journal that turns exploration into structured, long-term progression.

Combat, Animation, & Balance Improvements
Combat has been refined across the board with improved timings, clearer visual feedback, better parry systems, and rebalanced creature tiers. New weapons—including cursed variants—have been added, alongside animation polish and early groundwork for underwater combat.

Environmental Hazards & Survival Systems
New fire and drowning mechanics introduce clearer warning states and damage phases, reinforcing the importance of environmental awareness, preparation, and smart decision-making while exploring hostile terrain.

With this update, Under a Rock is starting to show how its many systems are coming together into a cohesive survival experience. While there’s still plenty of development ahead, the shift toward interconnected gameplay loops signals a major milestone for one of the most wishlisted survival games currently in development.
