Steelkrill Studio, the solo developer known for the viral psychological horror title The Backrooms 1998, is taking a sharp creative turn with the launch of Medievaly: Battle Simulator—a colorful, fast-paced real-time strategy game now available on PC via Steam. Priced at $8.99 USD, the game is also launching with a limited-time 20% discount.

This isn’t your average passive battle sim. Medievaly puts players in full control of every clash. It blends intuitive mechanics with real-time tactical decision-making, making every second on the battlefield count. Whether you’re choosing where to deploy archers, when to unleash elephants, or how to respond to a surprise flanking maneuver, your input directly determines the outcome.

A Strategy Game That Keeps You Moving

Unlike many auto-battlers or simulation-heavy strategy titles, Medievaly requires constant attention and quick thinking. You’re not just watching armies collide—you’re commanding, adapting, and reacting in the thick of it.

    • Unique Unit Variety: Each unit brings strategic value. Archers protect flanks, siege rams take down castle gates, and even simple farmers play a role, collecting gold during battle to fund reinforcements.

    • Multiple Game Modes:

      • Campaign Mode: Tackle handcrafted scenarios with increasing complexity.

      • Sandbox Mode: Customize your own battles—choose maps, objectives, and units.

        • Castle Siege: Breach or defend a fortress.

        • Time Survival: Hold the line until reinforcements arrive.

        • Kill Count: Reach 100 enemy kills before your opponent does.

      • Survival Mode: Endure a relentless 10-minute onslaught, where every decision on resource management and unit placement becomes critical.

A New Direction for a Horror Developer

Steelkrill Studio describes Medievaly as a creative shift born from a long-standing love of low-poly aesthetics and RTS gameplay.

“While horror has always been a passion of mine, I felt it was time to take a creative risk and try something completely different,” says the developer. “It looks colorful and welcoming, but it plays seriously; every decision matters.”
