Strap in, space architects—Adaptory, the cozy-yet-complex cosmic colony sim from Stormcloak Games, is officially heading to Gamescom 2025 as part of this year’s Indie Arena Booth lineup. Attendees will get hands-on time with the latest demo of this story-driven base-builder that mixes sci-fi survival with emotional depth—and just the right dose of awkward space comedy.
Space Ain’t Easy, But It’s Home
After an unexpected crash-landing on a barren little planetoid, you’re tasked with helping four unlikely survivors build a home among the stars. From laying pipes to managing oxygen levels, it’s your job to ensure everyone stays alive, healthy, and (hopefully) sane long enough to make it back home.
But Adaptory is more than just another colony sim. It’s an immersive survival sandbox wrapped in a striking, hand-drawn art style that blends expressive line work, colorful characters, and a surprising emotional core. Think “Oxygen Not Included meets Spiritfarer,” and you’re getting close.
Dig, Build, Automate, Survive
Starting with little more than duct tape and dreams, you’ll construct an increasingly complex base from scratch. Your crew will need electricity, clean water, air conditioning, and food—so dig into the surface, harvest resources, and design clever workarounds when your systems inevitably break. Automate the boring stuff, and brace for cosmic curveballs like:
-
Meteor showers
-
Solar flares
-
Cargo pod drops
-
Natural springs
-
Eclipses
-
Random crash-landings
You’ll also explore what lies beneath the surface—both physically and narratively. Read personal crew logs, check system messages, and piece together the bigger mystery of why your crew was out here in the first place… and what went wrong.
A Story-Driven Survival Sandbox
Behind the pipes and power grids lies a heartfelt story about people trying to find hope in isolation. Crew members have their own quirks, personal challenges, and relationships to manage. Your decisions can affect how well they work together—or fall apart.
“Adaptory is my love letter to deep systems-driven games,” says Jevon Wright, Founder and Lead Developer at Stormcloak Games. “But we wanted to bring more emotional storytelling into the genre, and really make players care about who they’re building for.”
Wishlist AdaptoryNow
If you’re heading to Gamescom, don’t miss your chance to play the latest build of Adaptory at the Indie Arena Booth. For everyone else, you can wishlist the game on Steam now and keep an eye out for its upcoming Early Access launch on PC and Itch.io.
Build your way out of a cosmic disaster—one air duct at a time.
