The team behind Once Upon a Jester is back with another offbeat adventure—and this time, it’s full of frogs, comedy, and bizarre strategy gameplay. Developer Bonte Avond and publisher Offbrand Games (Rivals of Aether II, Aethermancer) are heading to Gamescom this August to showcase Bonnie Bear Saves Frogtime, a quirky new title that defies genre labels in the best way possible.
If you’re a fan of Duck Detective or Night in the Woods, you’ll want to check this out. Bonnie Bear Saves Frogtime is equal parts narrative comedy, interactive music game, and tactical frog battler. Yes, frog battler.
Players take on the role of Bonnie Bear as she ventures through a world where every problem—big or small—is resolved through “Frog Battles,” a delightfully odd turn-based system that plays out with a heavy dose of charm and chaos. Expect absurd quests, plenty of musical interactions, and a storyline that involves the mother of all frogs (literally—the “motherfrogger”).
The latest demo will be playable at Gamescom in the Indie Arena Hall, where visitors can get hands-on with all the weirdness the game has to offer. The exact booth number is still TBA, but the team promises plenty of cocoduds to count and toadbags to fill when you get there.
Bonnie Bear Saves Frogtime doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it’s shaping up to be one of the most unique (and most amphibious) games on the indie radar. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates from the show floor in August.
