The devs behind the cult hit Barotrauma are back—and this time, they’re trading claustrophobic submarines for frozen wastelands. Revealed during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase 2025, Frostrail is the next big project from developer FakeFish and publisher Shiro Unlimited (Northgard, Wartales, Dune: Spice Wars), and it’s shaping up to be a chilling ride through post-apocalyptic terror.
Set to launch via Steam Early Access in 2026, Frostrail is a first-person, open-world survival crafting game set in a frigid world overrun by unspeakable horrors—and your only hope for survival is a massive, upgradeable train.

The icy tundra you’ll explore in Frostrail is both hauntingly beautiful and utterly unforgiving. As a lone pilgrim (or with up to three other survivors in 4-player online co-op), you’ll board a colossal locomotive powered by the mysterious Eden Engine—your lifeline in a world of frostbite and fear. Venture into snow-blanketed ruins and dungeon-like remnants of civilization to gather vital resources… but don’t stray too far. The cold isn’t just a threat—it’s a killer.
