Owlcat Games, the team behind hits like Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, has just dropped a teaser for their latest project, Rue Valley. Co-developed with Emotion Spark Studio, this new isometric narrative RPG dives deep into the mind of a man trapped in a time loop, grappling with his inner demons. Rue Valley marks one of the first titles to emerge from Owlcat’s freshly minted publishing arm, unveiled just last week.

In Rue Valley, players will step into a world where every decision matters and emotions run high. The characters you meet are more than just NPCs—they each carry their own emotional baggage, adding layers of depth to the narrative. The protagonist, battling his own mental challenges, must piece together the mystery behind the time loop that’s ensnared him.

Expect more details on Rue Valley at gamescom 2024, but here’s a sneak peek at what you can look forward to:

    • Craft Your Personality: Rue Valley’s time loop mechanic gives you the freedom to experiment. Play as a brooding loner in one loop and a dramatic extrovert in the next. Every reset offers a fresh start, letting you test out different approaches and see how they affect the story.
    • Store Your Memories: Memories are more than just keepsakes—they’re tools. Store key memories in a graph to unlock new interactions and mindsets that will help the protagonist as he navigates the eerie Rue Valley Motel.
    • Uncover the Secrets: The Rue Valley Motel and its surroundings are stuck in a time loop, and it’s up to you to figure out why. Each day is a chance to gather evidence, test theories, and inch closer to solving the enigma.
    • Stunning 2D Parallax Art: Rue Valley boasts a striking visual style inspired by the likes of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Disco Elysium. The comic book aesthetic, combined with rich storytelling, makes for a game that’s as visually captivating as it is emotionally engaging.

Keep an eye out for Rue Valley—it’s shaping up to be a thought-provoking journey into the human psyche, wrapped in the suspense of a time-bending mystery.
