The Hidden 1987

Rewind: The Hidden

Revisiting the 1987 sci-fi/action/horror movie

Synopsis: It’s the 80’s. It’s L.A. Hollywood, Beverly Hills. Normal, law-abiding citizens suddenly turn into murderous, violent criminals. Bodies start piling up within 24 hours and there’s no explanation as to why this group of people, seemingly non-related, have had severe personality changes. What ties these complete strangers together? A detective and an FBI agent from Washington team up to find what exactly is going on and and who…or what…is doing the killing.

The Hidden 1987

I’m probably going to say this a lot in my posts, but I LOVE the 80’s. If I could pick a time to go back to it would be then. My ideal Heaven would be a mid-80’s era mixed today’s technology.

Okay. Had to get that out of the way.

The film was released in 1987 among a slew of other, more popular science-fiction films including Project X, RobocopPredator and several others. There was something so perfect about this movie at the time that it has stuck with me over all these years. The cast was not super. The story was pretty simple. But I really liked it and still do. I recently re-watched this and still enjoyed it.

Kyle MacLachlan does an excellent job of playing the strange FBI agent who appears out of nowhere to help with the case. Michael Nouri, who turned down the role of Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon, plays the lead detective on the case and does an adequate job of selling the role. There are supporting actors such as Claudia Christian and even an appearance by Clu Gulager. All in all the actors do their the job and the story gets told. I think that’s why I felt the move was so perfect at the time.

The Hidden 1987

This IS a science fiction/action/horror movie. There’s a good reason for those labels. One thing we will never do here at Yogomi is give spoilers, but that description alone should intrigue you into watching it if you’re a fan of any of those three genres.

In reality, the film is not perfect at all, but it has stuck with me all these years and is still a favorite and permanently in my catalogue.

Extra: Here at Yogomi, Sam and I sat down for a discussion about the film. I thought it might be interesting sharing our thoughts as people from two different generations of moviegoers.
