Change in the comic book world is nothing new. Over the years, character stories and origins have been rewritten and reset multiple times.  From Superman dying then coming back to life all the way to Spiderman being a clone, this is the beauty of comic books.

Isn’t it?

What’s new is old, what’s new is old, and nothing is ever permanent.  Some of these changes are welcome, and some of these changes are met with much criticism. But the changes still happen and will continue to happen.

Iron Man, one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel Universe is no exception to change.  In the newest series titled “Invincible Iron Man”, Tony Stark will not be the focus of the man inside the armor we’ve all grown accustomed to.  Instead, it will be a 15 year old African American female genius named Riri Williams.

What do we know so far? she’s an MIT student who reverse-engineered an Iron Man suit from her dorm room.

Pretty impressive, huh?

I personally feel that this is a great move by Marvel at the height of the social issues that are present today, specifically the topics of racism and the feminist movement.  Marvel is no stranger to molding stories after current events and societal issues. An good example is back when the X-Men originated. That story was written to reflect the fight for civil rights in the 60’s.

However this new series turns out, for now it has the whole comic book universe and fans alike talking about our newest Iron Man Riri. Hopefully, there is a bright future for her.

The “Invincible Iron Man’ is being written by Brian Michael Bendis along with artist Stefano Caselli. It’s slated for release later this year.

What do you think about Riri Williams as the new Iron Man? Let us know in the comments below.
